Tips on how to survive a long-distance flight

With Holiday Season upon us, I thought of sharing some tips on how to survive a long-distance flight. For me, long trips are exciting because it usually means I am going somewhere fabulous and I have planned my trip for months ahead. But those long, international flights can also take a toll on your body, so I have learned a few lessons after travelling the past 10 years internationally. For anyone feeling intimidated by a 10+ hour flight, there are a few tricks-of-the-trade that will get you through your trip and feeling like a champion.

If you are traveling solo, ensure that you pack in a manageable manner. Trying to carry around more than one or two suitcases can be challenging, even with the usage of airport trolleys and staff that can assist you.

I generally pack one big suitcase that I can check-in and then a carry-on bag that I can take on the plane with me.

Aside from carry-on, I always recommend bringing some sort of “personal bag” for items that you can access quickly and either store by your feet or in the overhead during your flight.

My “personal bag” normally contains items that I can use almost every hour, like an antipollution face mist (I love the one from CHANEL) nose spray, eye drops, tissues, and skincare essentials, etc.

To help me stay comfortable, I usually wear loose-fitting clothing and an extra pair of clothes to change into, especially when I stop over and take a shower. I received the perfect pair of pajamas from Virgin Atlantic when I flew in their Upper Class earlier this year, so I am for sure going to use it for my upcoming trips again.

I also ensure that while I am awake, I try to move around as much as possible. I do that by getting up once an hour and walk to the bathroom to stretch my legs and get my blood circulating.

The most important thing during a long flight for me is to stay hydrated, and this does not mean to drink as much water as possible but I hydrate my skin & body. CHANEL has some awesome products that I can recommend like their good hand moisturizer, a tinted face moisturizer or CC Cream with an SPF factor in it, under-eye cream and lip balm.

I also try not to have any alcohol while flying and only stick to water and peppermint tea.

However, the most important tip for a long-haul flight is to get as much sleep as possible. Although I know it is impossible at times to get a full 8 hours of sleep in, I do aim for 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep – makes me feel rested when I arrive at my destination.
